Jack Torrance is a fictional character primarily known from the horror genre, specifically in the film The Shining (1980), directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film is an adaptation of Stephen King's novel of the same name.

Portrayed by Jack Nicholson in the film, Jack Torrance is a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic who takes a winter caretaker position at the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He hopes to overcome his writer's block and strained family life during the off-season.

As the isolation deepens, and compounded by the hotel's malevolent forces and his own internal demons, Jack descends into madness. He becomes increasingly violent and ultimately attempts to murder his wife, Wendy, and their son, Danny, who possesses psychic abilities referred to as "the shining." His descent is marked by the chilling line, "Here's Johnny!"
